The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is one of the oldest, most prestigious universities in the United Arab Emirates.
ITC Group identified the UAE as an emerging education hub in 1993 and established the Institute for Australian Studies. The Institute was granted a licence in 1999 by the UAE Federal Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to operate as a branch campus of the University of Wollongong – the first western education provider to receive this honour. Since 2003, it has operated under its own charter, and was renamed UOWD following the accreditation of its programs by the Ministry in 2004.
Today, UOWD is one of the most visible educational symbols of Australia in the Gulf region and is widely recognised as being an integral part of Dubai.
As an independent UAE institution of higher education UOWD attracts students from the UAE and Australia, and around the world. Approximately 3,500 students representing 108 nationalities are currently enrolled at UOWD.
Located in Knowledge Village, an educational precinct a short distance from the heart of the city, UOWD offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the areas of business and information technology, which are directly linked to the human resource needs of the UAE.
Internationally recognised qualifications enable UOWD graduates to pursue rewarding careers in Dubai. UOWD Alumni include many high profile graduates placed in prominent positions in both the public and private sectors across the region.
The University’s faculty is a mix of locally and internationally recruited academics with extensive teaching, business and industry experience. They bring years of knowledge gained from research in their respective fields into the classroom, providing students with a stimulating academic environment and a deep understanding of the application of theory to the workplace.
UOWD maintains a long and proud tradition of excellence in education combined with liberal values of enquiry. It strives to provide a fertile environment for bright young minds to flourish, where critical thinking is both encouraged and nurtured.
